Albertslund

 Albertslund (Denmark)

It is situated 15 km west from Copenhagen. It has 30 thousand inhabitants. It is a modern town which was established in 1964. It is a very young town. Till that time, only small villages and agricultural land was here.

Name ALBERTSLUND was given after a name of French nobleman, who came here around 1800 from Denmark. He had lost his family during French Revolution. His name was Albert de Rault de Ramsault de Tortonval. He had started to work as a dentist and in 1817 he had bought a a farm in village named  Vridsløselille. Albert never lived on this farm, but his son did and planted here a small grove (in Danish "lund") and named that grove after his father  - Albert. Therefore Albertslund.

Albertslund Twinning Association (Albertslund Venskabsby Forening) was established in 2006. Partnership  with Ricany was signed in 1992, you will find more information in section History of Twinning. During our twinning active time, Ricany representatives took part in several student exchanges, e.g. students from state High-school (Gymnasium) from 1997. Pictures from that visit - you can find under  Gallery - pictures from Albertslund.

Twinning with Ricany and Albertslund is very important. In 1994, Albertslund people helped and gave financial resources to complete a statue of 83 childern´s victims in Lidice memorial and notably contribute to The war childern´s victims monument.  More information here.
